Underwater Base Jump
This is the stuff of nightmares. No, I honestly have recurring night terrors about being trapped in pitch black waters. Whatever appeal there is to plunging into dark gaping holes of mystery, I don’t see it. But World Champion free-diver Guillaume Nery does. Taking a break from breaking all those free-diving depth records in the early 2000s, Nery decides jumping off a cliff is the best use of his time.
After beating the depth record in 2002 with -89 meters, he continued to push the bounds until he achieved a previously unseen -109 meters in 2006. And I was proud when I dove to the deep side of the pool that one time. Dean’s Blue Hole is the deepest (and most frightening) blue hole on Earth and Nery dives it unfazed, all while holding his breath*. Now before you go dismissing this video and calling Guillaume Nery a phony, the video’s description clearly reads that it is fiction and done for artistic purposes. Of course he didn’t hold his breath, I was gasping for air just looking at the hole, it looks like the gateway to hell. Hopefully we can expect Corliss to take this up a notch and wingsuit the circumference of the “Hell Hole”.
